Barometer - Corporate Governance in Start-ups and Scale-ups: The role of independent directors from the perspective of investors

The French Institute of Directors (IFA) has published the English version of the 2024 edition of the Barometer on Corporate Governance in Start-ups and Scale-ups from the Perspective of Investors.

This new edition, produced by IFA's Innovative Growth Companies Club, in partnership with France Digitale and Lauda Capital, explores the role of independent directors in the governance of start-ups and scale-ups.

Following a first edition published in 2022 on the governance of innovative growth companies, the 2024 edition of this barometer highlights the critical importance of effective boards and strong governance as key performance drivers, as young businesses have to manage a rapidly evolving and challenging landscape.

Based on responses from 40 venture capital and growth investors, this study outlines five key takeaways to establish robust and tailored governance frameworks. It emphasizes the growing importance of independent directors and the need for balanced and diverse boards.

With this publication, IFA reaffirms its commitment to supporting board members and innovation stakeholders by sharing actionable recommendations to guide start-ups and scale-ups through their growth journeys.
